In a significant development aimed at combating terrorism in Somalia, the Somali army’s Major General Ibrahim Sheikh Mohiuddin extended an invitation to Lieutenant General Jonathan Braga, the commander of the US Army Special Operations Command to areas recently recaptured from the Al-Shabaab extremist group, including the town of Aadan Yabaal in the Middle Shabelle region.
General Mohiuddin, emphasizing Somalia’s determination to rid the nation of terrorism, stated, “The country has entered the final battle to expel terrorists from Somalia.” These remarks were made during a press briefing reported by the Somali News Agency.
He went on to credit the successes achieved in the fight against Al-Shabaab to the collective efforts of the national army. “The war against the terrorist Al-Shabaab militia, which seeks to destabilize security and terrorize citizens, has achieved many victories due to the national efforts made by the national army” said General Mohiuddin.
The general highlighted the effective actions taken by the National Army, which led to significant losses for the terrorists in the areas that have been liberated. In some instances, Al-Shabaab militants retreated without engaging in battle, signaling the success of the military operations.
General Mohiuddin also provided insight into the ongoing military strategy, stating, “The armed forces will arrive in the districts of El Bor and Gul Hariri as soon as possible to liberate them from terrorist cells.” He added that the first phase of the operation to combat terrorists is expected to be completed within two weeks.
