Somali Police Foil Car Bomb Attack in Mogadishu’s Dayniile District

Mogadishu, September 2, 2023 – The Somali Police Force successfully thwarted a car bomb attack in the Dayniile district of Mogadishu, preventing potential harm to civilians and property. Police spokesperson Sadiq Aden Ali Doodishe provided details about the incident, emphasizing the authorities’ commitment to ensuring public safety.

The incident occurred near Ex-control Afgoye in the Dayniile district, when police officers suspected a luxury car passing through the area. Acting on their suspicions, the officers stopped the vehicle for inspection at approximately 10:30 a.m.

Upon closer examination, it was revealed that the car was rigged with explosives, posing a grave threat to the people residing in Banadir region. The vigilant police officers immediately acted to prevent a disaster, securing the area and evacuating nearby civilians.

Sadiq Aden Ali Doodishe, the police spokesperson, confirmed that the vehicle was indeed laden with explosives and that it exploded while parked at a traffic checkpoint of the Iiltire army. Fortunately, due to the timely intervention of the security forces, the explosion was contained, resulting in no casualties.

“The terrorists loaded a vehicle with explosives, but the vigilant efforts of the Iiltire Operation Force, particularly the Somali Police Force, prevented and foiled the attack. While civilians were being evacuated, the vehicle detonated,” stated Doodishe.

In a coordinated effort, the security forces at the scene apprehended two individuals who were driving the explosive-laden car. These suspects are currently in custody and will face legal proceedings to determine their involvement in the attempted attack.

The National Intelligence Agency, along with cooperation from local residents, continues to work diligently to ensure the safety of the capital city and to apprehend any terrorists who may pose a threat to the lives and property of the Somali people.

The incident, which was widely heard in various parts of Mogadishu, serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by Somali security forces in their relentless efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
